The Maria Valerie Bridge is a 500-metre-long bridge over the Danube, which connects Štúrovo in Slovakia with Esztergom in Hungary. It was opened in 1895 and named after the daughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I. It was destroyed several times during the wars and has not been rebuilt for almost 57 years. It was reopened in 2001, reconnecting the two banks of the river. Today it serves pedestrians, cyclists and cars and offers beautiful views of the Danube and the Esztergom Basilica on the other side.
